PAWN SACRIFICE

PAWN SACRIFICE chronicles American chess prodigy Bobby Fischer’s terrifying struggles with genius and madness, and the rise and fall of the kid from Brooklyn who captured the world’s imagination.

In a gripping true story set during the height of the Cold War, American chess legend Bobby Fischer faced Boris Spassky of the Soviet Union in the greatest chess match ever played. It was a match in which Fischer fought against two superpowers: on the chess board, he fought the Cold War; in his mind he fought his madness.

For Bobby Fischer, whose genius emerged the moment he learned how to play from the instructions in a dime-store chess set, madness was never far behind. Like many other great minds plagued by mental illness before him, Fischer became defined by his madness, but never lost his genius.

As PAWN SACRIFICE demonstrates, no person exemplified this tortured state of mind more than chess Grandmaster Bobby Fischer.
