An Israeli Love Story

AN ISRAELI LOVE STORY

Set during the turbulent period of British Mandate in 1940s Palestine, AN ISRAELI LOVE STORY is at its heart a love story about two people during a simple time. Actress Margalit meets charismatic Eli on a bus and falls in love with him instantly. She tries to get close to him, but he's too busy with the Hagana’s Palmach, the elite fighting force of the Jewish underground army. Finally, the barriers between the two come down and romance blooms. Margalit moves in with Eli and they set a date for their wedding, but soon Israel's harsh reality intervenes.

With sensitivity and simplicity director Dan Wolman weaves the love story between two young idealists into the pivotal moments that gave birth to the state of Israel. He juxtaposes youthful and honest romance with the country’s age of innocence in a beautiful story about the coming of age of and in a new country. AN ISRAELI LOVE STORY is based on the true story of the love affair between Pnina Gary and Eli Ben–Zvi, son of Rachel Yanait and Yitzhak Ben-Zvi, the Second President of the State of Israel.
